Let me start with a confession, I love finding new ways of learning for my students. I find it interesting and exciting. All students learn differently in their own and creative way. Each day I learn something about a student or the way their brain learns. As an educator we cannot stop learning ourselves. Everyday is a new day to learn something new. I was at a meeting one day and I over heard a conversation on Daily 5 with a few teachers. I had never heard of Daily 5 and I was curious as to what it was. As I was listening I turned around and asked "What exactly is Daily 5?" As I started joining in and listening about this new topic I started researching and decided I could do this as my research project.
I work in a very small rural area in Missouri. The district is a K-12th grade school district with approximately 180 students. This community is a very family oriented, farming cultural. There is one teacher for each grade level. This is our districts third year having one building principal K-12 and it is still a challenge.

My Vision and Why:
This research project and intended audience is elementary teachers and elementary aged students to use as a resource guide within Daily 5 writing. It's purpose is to help my students become better writers and understand the process of writing. I would love for my students to have a passion and understanding of writing.
Teaching through Daily 5 writing will help teachers manage more one-on-one conferences, whole and small writing group lessons. Students who have a purpose care about their writing and the people who will read it (Boushey & Moser, 2006) Allowing students to write daily helps improve spelling and handwriting coordination.
I hope to take Daily 5 writing in my classroom to the full capability with my students. It is key that students have that time set aside daily/weekly to work on writing skills. In the early primary grades it is very important for students to understand sentence structure, sequencing, how to write a paragraph and punctuation.
